There. I’d done it. I’d finally given in. I wanted Elliot. He wanted me. We were two grown adults, and not every sexual encounter had to be going somewhere. Cass managed casual just fine. In fact, she preferred the excitement of those first few weeks of a new relationship when neither party could keep their hands off each other. Not that I could hand on heart say that’d ever happened to me. If I thought about the two serious-ish relationships I’d had—one lasted six months, the other four—neither had overwhelmed me on the passion front. I hadn’t wanted to rip their clothes off or spent most of my day dreaming about seeing them again. I hadn’t woken up at night after having the filthiest dream, or masturbated to the image of them—physical or otherwise.

Cass had done all those things several times over. When I shared with her one night that her experiences were alien to me, she’d stared at me, openmouthed, for a good long minute, and then hugged me almost to death and told me how sorry she was. I’d laughed and told her that life wasn’t all about sex. She’d vehemently disagreed.

With Elliot, I felt different. He provoked feelings in me I’d never had before. Sometimes I wanted to slap him, other times kiss him, but I couldn’t deny the passion between us, and we’d barely touched. An ache grew between my legs. Already I couldn’t wait for tonight.

I left him standing there with a shocked expression—damn, it felt good to best him—and climbed into the car. Lily clapped her hands, her excitement off the charts.

“Are we really going on a plane, Sage?”

“We are, Lily Billy.” I clipped her seat belt in place as Elliot joined us.

“Don’t forget to strap Tubby in,” Lily said. “We have to keep him safe, too.”

I raked my gaze over Elliot. “He’s not that fat.”

My joke went right over Lily’s head, but not Elliot’s. He actually glanced down at himself, then ran a hand over his flat stomach.

I laughed. “Made you check.”

His eyes narrowed. “I’ll log that transgression away for later.”

A quiver inched up my spine, but I hid my delight from him. He didn’t need any further encouragement. I appeased Lily by strapping the bear next to her, then I took the seat opposite. Elliot sat beside me, and the car pulled away. Lily’s constant chatter and multitude of questions kept us busy, and as the car drew to a halt and Elliot’s driver announced we’d arrived, I thought nothing of it as I leaned over, unclipped Lily’s and Tubby’s belts, and then opened the door and climbed onto the tarmac.

My jaw hit the floor. Okay, not literally, but holy hell. I’d expected to find us at JFK departures surrounded by hundreds of traveling passengers all hurrying to check in. Instead, the only people here were the three of us, Elliot’s driver, and a smartly dressed woman in a fitted purple dress with a scarf tied around her neck—who was standing at the top of a flight of stairs leading to a private jet.
